A plain wedding ring, magically transformed with a show of dazzling channel-set diamonds
Adding diamonds to a ring
Adding diamonds to a ring will transform the ring into an entirely unique design.
Some of our clients have this in mind when they first purchase their wedding ring. Perhaps their wedding costs have soared and the plain wedding ring makes more sense at the time. Or perhaps the transformation at a later date fills-in for a diamond eternity ring. Certainly a lovely touch.

Adding diamonds can be an anniversary gift idea to celebrate a certain time of marriage. There are many reasons why this makes a great deal of sense and the many emails we receive asking for this service mean that people really do want to bling their wedding rings!
Or, an unwanted wedding ring after divorce can become an entirely new ring for a brand new life.
How many diamonds to add?
Diamonds can be added to the band at intervals, flush set into the metal and spaced out.
Or, they can be neatly channel set edge to edge, or grain set giving a more textured effect to the row of diamonds.
The number of diamonds will affect cost but can be minimal or extensive around the full circumference of the band.

How much does it cost to add diamonds to a wedding ring?
Since you already own the wedding ring, the cost of precious metal is not a consideration. Your cost is for the diamonds, and labour to carry out the work.
The diamond cost will depend on the size of the stones and how many are required. The diamond size will be limited by the depth of your ring.

Another consideration is the colour and clarity of the diamonds which are best matched to the engagement ring if this is also a diamond set.
Can you add just one diamond each year?
We can add diamonds progressively around a wedding ring depending on the setting style chosen. This works best for flush set diamonds spaced around the ring or grain set diamonds. Some clients choose a yearly anniversary to progressively add diamonds into their ring.
How does a wedding ring look with diamonds and without diamonds?
The following video shows two shaped wedding rings. The first wedding ring has no diamonds whereas the other ring has diamonds added and represents an eternity ring.
What diamond shapes can be added to a ring?
The most popular diamond shapes for adding diamonds to a ring are round brilliant cuts and square princess cuts. These are both the cut in very small sizes suitable for setting into slim wedding rings.
Clients often choose the diamond shape that best matches an engagement ring diamond.
For other styles of diamond such as the emerald cut, we often use Baguette -cut diamonds that flow beautifully along a machine cut channel.

Matching new diamonds to existing diamonds in your ring
If the engagement ring features diamond shoulders, adding diamonds to a plain wedding ring to match the wedding ring will create a well-considered pair of rings.
We recommend aligning the ends of the channel and matching the size of diamonds for a balanced look.
Can you put a bigger diamond in a ring?
Most engagement rings require a new setting to hold a bigger diamond. The depth of a wedding ring limits the size of the diamond. In some instances, adding a raised bezel opens up more possibilities to increase the size of a diamond or gemstone added to a ring.
Adding birthstones to a wedding ring
Consider adding your birthstone to a wedding ring. This option adds a unique colour to your wedding ring. The following image shows some of our birthstone wedding rings available in most types of gems.

Keep this in mind before buying a wedding ring
If you’re buying a plain wedding ring but want the option of having the same ring set with diamonds in the future, we strongly recommend purchasing at least a medium weight wedding ring to allow enough depth for diamonds in the future.
At Serendipity Diamonds we will only diamond set plain bands that have been purchased from Serendipity, so please remember this. We support the original ring which cannot be done with third-party wedding rings, but if you’re a returning client this will never be an issue.
