What is Sapphire?
As you will see from our graphic below. Sapphire is the common name of Corundum. Sapphires and Rubies are both Corundum.
However, the name Ruby is reserved specifically for the red colours of the precious gemstone.
Secondly, the sapphire gemstone is available in a wide range of colours and shades. As a result, most of our clients believe that Sapphire is only available in Blue.
However, this beautiful gemstone is available in Pink, Green, Yellow. In addition to a range of colour intensities and shades. Above all, we can work with a client on a particular colour or shade to achieve the desired finished piece.

History
The name Sapphire comes from “Sapphirus”, meaning dear to the planet Saturn. The word Sapphirus in Latin references to pink as a colour dating back to the 17 Century.
As a result, pink sapphires are now most popular for engagement rings.
Traditionally, this gem symbolizes nobility, truth, sincerity, and faithfulness. Moreover, it has decorated the robes of royalty and clergy members for centuries.

Dating back centuries, the sapphire has been worn and represented among royalty and clergy. Said to symbolise nobility, truth, sincerity, and faithfulness.
Ancient Greece strongly believed that blue sapphire protected them from harm and envy.
Interestingly in the middle ages, the clergy wore blue sapphires to symbolise heaven. Whereas ordinary folks thought the gem attracted heavenly blessings.
Moving forward, the symbolism changed. Believed to have the power to guard chastity, make peace between enemies, influence spirits, and reveal the secrets of oracles.
Healing Properties
Additionally, sapphire is believed to bring healing properties to the wearer. These include helping with migraines, headaches, eyesight, inner ear issues, along with balance and fevers.
According to beliefs, the gemstone helps emotions such as relieving anxiety and stress.
Madagascar Sapphire
Madagascar sapphires – considered one of the top types of sapphires mined. In 1998, a huge sapphire gemstone deposit was discovered therefore sparking a huge interest in the mine.
As this was extremely rare to hear of a deposit this size being discovered. Generally, sapphires from this mine are dark blue in shade.

What is a Padparadscha Sapphire?
Some people compare padparadscha colours to a sunset. However, the Padparadscha word itself refers to the rich colour of a lotus blossom.
In conclusion, the most expensive version of The Septembers Birthstone due to its unique shade.
