The celebration of 40 years of marriage marks a milestone occasion for many couples. A 40th wedding anniversary, also called a “Ruby Wedding Anniversary,” associates with the precious deep red gemstone of the same name.

Ruby comes from a red variation of Corundum (aluminium oxide), seen in other colours in the gemstone Sapphire. The colour derives from Chromium present within the crystal and results in variations of colour from reddish pink to a deep red colour, sometimes described as pigeon blood red.

For some couples, a 40th anniversary provides an opportunity to commission a truly special ring design to celebrate the occasion. In many instances, our clients give great consideration to a bespoke design to make their jewellery design a one-of-a-kind creation.

Two of the most precious gemstones—Ruby and Diamond, pair beautifully owing to the contrast achieved by both gemstones. Ruby provides the intense deep burst of dark red. At the same time, sparkling diamonds match the brilliance with a neutral whiteness suitable for most precious metal types.
From experience, many 40th anniversary rings stand apart from engagement rings in their size and design. Furthermore, many of the ring designs we have created capture attention in their impressive size and style.

For many of our commissions, we work with rudimentary sketches clients send us on scraps of paper. We transform rough sketches into fully-fledged jewellery designs.
How long does a Ruby ring take to make?
Keep in mind, that timescales vary depending on the ring style you choose. For example, regular designs take around 4 weeks to create. However, if you decide to commission a bespoke ring design, we require additional time to discuss your brief and to create designs.
For some clients unable to visit our showroom, we take time to photograph gemstones as part of the design process. Allow at least 5-6 weeks for a custom-made ruby ring. For this reason, don’t leave things until the last minute. Instead, plan well ahead and allow plenty of time.
