Earring stacking lets you mix, match, and express your style in endless ways. Here’s how to build a stack that looks intentional, balanced, and totally you.

DO’s of Earring Stacking

Do Mix Earring Sizes

Start with a statement and go smaller as you travel up the lobe and ear as the canvas becomes smaller. This creates a natural flow and draws attention to the entire ear, making your earring stacking look intentional and balanced.

Do Mix Earring Shapes

Mixing shapes adds visual interest and leads the eye in various directions. Mixing earring shapes can be very fun and intentional! Try mixing a classic round diamond stud with fancy shapes in other piercings

Do Keep a Cohesive Earring Metal Color

We’re all about mixing metals, but the ear is such a small canvas, and we find one metal color to be less messy.  Sticking to one tone, like yellow or white gold, keeps your earring stacking refined and visually seamless.

Do Start With a Base

An anchor earring like a hoop, drop earring or statement stud to build your stack around. This piece sets the tone for your stack and helps guide how you layer smaller accents above it.

Do Vary Your Earring Styles

Adding a hoop or huggie throughout the ear stack changes the shape of the stack and adds interest to the entire look. We love the idea of adding a huggie to a second or third lobe piercing and especially on the cartilage. Mixing silhouettes gives your earring stacking a curated, dimensional look that feels elevated and personal.

DONT’s Of Earring Stacking

Don’t Overcrowd Your Ear

Placing too many large pieces or similar pieces next to one another can crowd the ear space and make the look feel chaotic. Leave small gaps between earrings so each one has its own moment and your earring stacking feels clean and intentional.

Don’t Ignore Balance

A hoop or dangling earring is a fun statement piece, but multiple statement pieces next to one another can throw off the balance of the ear. If one side feels heavier, even it out with daintier studs or smaller hoops to restore symmetry and keep your earring stack harmonious.

Don’t Duplicate Too Much

The same style earring in two piercings can make your stack look flat or repetitive. Instead, try alternating textures, shapes, or stone details to keep the look dynamic. Even subtle changes like a pave huggie next to a plain hoop can make your earring stack feel more exciting.
