The Delaware Depository Services Company (DDSC), more commonly known as just the Delaware Depository, is a privately held vault, specializing in precious metals custody and distribution services.
Certified by the IRS to safely secure IRA assets, the depository was founded in 1999 and is the go-to choice for the majority of IRA custodians.
The Delaware Depositories are 72,000-square-feet, state of the art and employ detailed and comprehensive reporting systems.
In addition to IRA assets, the DDSC is an exchange-approved depository for the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) and the COMEX and NYMEX divisions of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) Group.
Where Is the Delaware Depository Located?
There are two Delaware Depository locations.
The original Delaware Depository is located in Wilmington, Delaware.
Nestled just over 100 miles from both the financial hub of New York City, and the nation’s political center, Washington, D.C., the depository stands alone—far from any threats that may face these cities.
The DDSC opened a second location in Boulder City, Nevada, in 2022.
The Boulder City vault is accessible to Las Vegas but far enough away not to be in the Las Vegas mix.
Features of the Delaware Depository
As the industry leader in custodial asset storage, the Delaware Depository maintains strict standards and security measures.
All systems are state of the art. DDSC sets the industry standard in the industry standard in the following areas:
Security
Redundancy is at the forefront of the DDSC security process.
The facilities are equipped with numerous internal and external cameras. Deliveries are recorded, listened to, and signed off on by multiple employees.
Two employees record and inspect package content and secure it in a cage.
No one employee has access to any package from start to finish.
Staff reviews system entries, then compares received metals to those entries to verify.
Metals are authenticated using visual inspection, X-ray machines, scales, eddy-current testers, ultrasounds, exedra, and magnifiers.
Finally, the metals are placed in Class 3 vaults for safekeeping.
Insurance
The DDSC carries $1 billion “all-risk” insurance coverage, underwritten by London. All-risk insurance generally protects against all risks except those explicitly excluded in the contract language.
Storage
The Delaware Depository only stores your metals. They don’t own your metals.
All metals are “off book,” meaning the depository has no ownership claim to your property. No creditors of the depository can attach or come after your assets. Your metals are fully allocated to you and only you.
You may schedule an appointment to visit your metals.
Many investors find it comforting to set an appointment, visit their metals, and hold the shiny pieces in their hands.
Customer Service
The Delaware Depository team values your privacy. Personal information and account activity are completely private and held in strict confidence.
Management has over 200 years of combined experience with handling precious metals. The staff is trained to be friendly, responsive, and helpful.
No question is too small.
Fees
The Delaware Depository’s fees vary.
Most IRA custodians include the storage fee in their yearly account maintenance fee. Check with your IRA custodian for details.
Personal storage fees may depend on the value of what’s being stored.
