Gold, silver drop on dollar strength, decline in jobless claims

Gold and silver futures fell sharply on Thursday, pressured by strength in the dollar as well as a decline in weekly U.S. jobless claims. April gold lost $43.90, or 2.4%, to settle at $1,791.20 an ounce. March silver settled at $26.234 an ounce, down 65 cents, or 2.4%. Prices settled at their lowest since late November, FactSet data show.
